Laid down by Bethlehem Steel, Staten Island NY June 8 1945.
Launched January 17 1946 and commissioned June 29 1946
by Miss Katherine K. Royal, the daughter of Admiral Royal.
Decommissioned on 27 March, 1971
She was pier side in Mayport and her colors were hauled down at 1030.
The last watch stander, OOD, was Ens. Peter G. Roberts.
March 27 1971, transferred to the
government of Turkey for $153,000.
Renamed Adatepe.
Scrapped in 1993.

This was the only ships patch I ever knew and I was Aboard from 62 to 68. The patch and Ships Plaque was given to the Blue Ribbon Bluejacket of the quarter along with a letter from the Captain to recognize you as the Blue Jacket. The Captain during this period was William Chattelton. Hope this adds a little more info to the history of the ship. |
